Disney XD trains young Ninja

Disney’s EMEA production hub is coproducing an animated buddy comedy for Disney XD about a schoolboy who gains the powers of a ninja when he dons a “magic demon fibre suit.”

Randy Cunningham: Ninth Grade Ninja

Randy Cunningham: Ninth Grade Ninja (52×11’) will broadcast across Disney XD feeds in 129 countries worldwide later this year.

Disney’s London-based production unit has hooked up with Dublin toon house Boulder Media (The Amazing World of Gumball, El Tigre) and LA’s Titmouse Inc (Motorcity, Metalocalypse) to create the series, with production already underway in Ireland.

The show follows an unlikely boy hero who, along with his best friend, finds himself as the last line of defence for his school and the wider world against monsters and demons that want to release an evil 800-year-old sorcerer trapped beneath his school.

Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas – a pairing whose credits include Scooby Doo and Paris Hilton’s My New BFF – created and executive produce the series.

Voice talent attached includes Ben Schwartz (Parks & Recreation, House of Lies), Tim Curry (Spamalot, Charlie’s Angels), Megan Mullaly (Will & Grace) and Andrew Caldwell (My Name is Earl).

Disney called the show its “most global production yet”. The Mouse House launched its EMEA production hub in 2007 with a remit of creating content for European and global distribution outside the US.

Shows since produced out of the prodco include Jungle Junction for Disney Junior and Rated A for Awesome for Disney XD and recently announced it was producing Winnie the Pooh’s Tales of Friendship and The Happy Hugglemonsters.
